A family in Siaya County on Sunday morning lost four of their children who died after consuming cassavas at their home in Uhuru Village.
Mr Sylvanus Otieno, a teacher at Ojola Primary School in Gem Sub-County, disclosed that his five children began experiencing breathing difficulties and vomiting on Saturday night after having cassava for lunch.
Four of them passed away while one is undergoing treatment at the Siaya County Referral Hospital.
The four who died were Vivian Otieno, 17, Stephen Otieno, 12, Christine Otieno, 11, and Calvins Otieno, 8 and the children’s mother Penninah Akoth Ouma said “It’s painful to have lost my four children. It is very unfortunate but I would want an inquest [into] their deaths.”
