Chief Nyesom Wike, Rivers State Governor, marked the 56th Independence Anniversary of the country with the releasing of nine convicts, three of them on death row, while six is serving life imprisonment by the power conferred on him by the constitution

A statement signed on Monday, by the State Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr. Emmanuel Aguma, SAN, said that the governor’s decision to grant the convicts freedom was based on the advice giving to him by the State Advisory Committee on the Prerogative of Mercy.

Those on death role are: Goddy Faghawari, Kendu Uffort and Emmanuel Ekanem.

While those on life imprisonment are: Chukwuemeka Emeka, Akara Etteh, Emmanuel Ihenebiri, Samuel Amadi, Sgt. James Mordi and Tochukwu Chukwu.
